Liow gives up WWW 15

PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai says he will give up the WWW15 number plate as it is the right thing to do.

"As I now know there was bidding for this number, it is only right that I do not exercise my option. The number should go to the highest bidder," he said in a statement Monday.

Liow reasserted that he did not bid or tender for the number which reached a top bid of RM24,200.

"Following the proper procedures, my office had requested for the registration number for use for the minister's official car.

"My office received an official letter dated June 6th from the Road Transport Department (RTD) confirming the free registration number," he said.

The RTD had given the minister the option of a free offer of the plate in line with his ministerial position, pay the bidding price, or reject the number plate.

Liow had been asked about the winning bid for the plate after a list on RTD's website announced him as the buyer.
