Departure tax up by RM15 from Nov 1
FLYING out of Changi Airport will cost more from April 1, when departure taxes go up by S$6 (RM15).
From S$28 (RM78) now, travellers will pay S$34 (RM85). There will be no change to the S$12 (RM30) charge for transit passengers.
Those who want to beat the increase should confirm their plans as soon as possible because the higher charge will kick in for tickets purchased from Nov 1, travel agents said.
Changi Airport Group spokesman Ivan Tan said that an announcement will be made soon.
The last time the airport increased its passengers charges was in 2009.
Industry watchers said the higher fees are likely to co-fund ongoing upgrading and improvement works. Over the next few years, there are plans to build Terminal 4, which will replace the existing Budget Terminal.
The open air carpark in front of T1 will also be demolished and in its place, a new multi-storey complex will be built.
Singapore Airlines spokesman Nicholas Ionides said of the impending increase: In general, any cost increase is of concern, given that the operating environment remains challenging and uncertainly in the global economy has negatively impacted business confidence and the outlook for travel demand.
