Radeon HD 7700M, 7800M and 7900M : AMD Graphics Core Next Hits Mobile

Truth to be told, AMD Radeon HD 7000 GPU series have actually arrived into mobile space just a short while ago via Radeon HD 7600M, 7500M and 7400M GPUs. However, these GPUs were actually based on previous generation 6000M series’ Turks and Caicos GPUs while by then, the HD 7000 series for desktop have begun to offer new performance and enthusiast-level GPUs based on the new 28nm Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.
The wait for GCN-based Radeon HD GPUs for mobile ends today though as AMD have officially unveiled the new Radeon HD 7700M, 7800M and 7900M GPU series. Just like their desktop counterparts, all these GPUs are targeted for users and enthusiasts that demands high performance graphics in their laptop.

The Radeon HD 7900M series is currently represented by only one model - the Radeon HD 7970M – which offers up to 2176/136* GFLOPS of computing power through its 850 MHz processing core that features 1280 stream processors and 80 texture units with the help of 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 memory that runs at the speed of 1200 MHz.
As for the second in command - the HD 7800M series – its computing power is rated at up to 1024/64* GFLOPS and offers processing speed of up to 800 MHz together with 640 stream processors and 40 texture units. The 7800M series is also accompanied by 2GB 128-bit GDDR5 memory with a clock speed of 1000 MHz which applies to both top of the series HD 7870M and the slightly slower HD 7850M.
Last but not least in list is the HD 7700M series which comes in three variations: HD 7770M, HD 7750M and HD 7730M. This particular series promises up to 691/43.2* GFLOPS of computing and features a core with a processing speed of up to 675 MHz together with a maximum amount of stream processors at 512 and 32 texture units. Memory-wise, the HD 7700M series offers up to 2GB of 128-bit GDDR5 memory with a clock speed of 1000 MHz.

These new GCN-based mobile GPUs are also built with a number of AMD’s in-house technologies such as dynamic GPU switching technology called Enduro as well as PowerGate and ZeroCore power management technologies in addition to the usual support for Eyefinity multi-display technology, HD3D and App Acceleration.
